What is Dermal Filler and how does it work?
  • Dermal Fillers are made from a variety of materials, however Dr Claire Louise only uses those made from hyaluronic acid (for all procedures apart from hands) and calcium hydroxyapatite (for hands only). Both of these materials occur naturally in the body and are therefore extremely well tolerated. Fillers are used to plump out wrinkles and areas of the face where there has been volume loss. It is a very effective treatment which lasts approx 3-6 months, after which time the filler is broken down naturally by the body and the area returns to the pre-treatment state if treatment is not repeated.

What should I expect from the treatment?
  • It is important to have a full consultation before your treatment takes place. After you have been identified as a good candidate for dermal fillers you can expect to have a local anaesthetic cream or injection to numb the area, followed by injections of filler into the area of your concern. Immediately after treatment the skin will appear smoother and refreshed with less wrinkles.

Are there any risks or side effects?
  • Side effects of fillers include swelling, bleeding, bruising, infection, migration of filler, lumpiness and in very rare cases blockage of blood vessels causing tissue death. Your clinician is trained to spot these problems and prevent them from causing further harm, however you must be aware of risks before proceeding.
