Which areas can be treated?
  • SkinPen is extremely versatile and can be used on many different body parts, including: face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
  • The treatment can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars and is effective for all skin types (dark to fair) because it doesn’t affect the epidermis where the skin pigment resides.
  • The SkinPen needles adjust to different lengths, allowing Dr Claire Louise to customize your procedure based on skin’s thickness and your specific needs.

What is SkinPen treatment and how does it work?
  • SkinPen is a micro-needling tool that uses tiny needles to create small holes in the surface layer of your skin. In response to these micro-injuries, your body produces collagen and elastin; two proteins which cause the wound to heal naturally. This process results in skin remodelling, improving the overall structure of your skin and producing new dermal tissue and blood vessels.
  • Engineered in the USA by Bellus Medical, SkinPen Precision is the next generation Micro-Needling device and offers unsurpassed safety with the only 100% completely sealed cartridge on the market to prevent fluid intake and and minimize the occurrence of cellular damage.

What should I expect from the treatment?
  • SkinPen can be used any time of the year and has a short procedure time of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Your skin works fairly quickly to rejuvenate new tissue so in theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks and you may notice your skin looking brighter and firmer after just one session.
  • The results will vary depending on the individual and skin type and you may need several sessions for the best results. Alternative or complementing treatments may also prolong the results.
  • You can discuss your individual goals in the consultation where Dr Claire Louise will advise you on the best plan of action.

Are there any risks or side effects?
  • There are minimal side effects and downtime following a SkinPen procedure.
  • Most people notice minor skin irritation and redness but this typically lasts for only a few days, so you can return to work or social activities quickly.
  • SkinPen has minimal risk of scarring or infections but it advised to carefully follow your aftercare plan to aid the healing process.
  • Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun after treatment, so sunscreen is a must.
  • The procedure is not safe for people who use certain acne medications or for women who are pregnant.
  • If in doubt, please seek advice from Dr Claire Louise who can advise.
